Pickups

It was time for some of the crew to reassemble for 3 days of pickups on Breathe.

The film makers would be paying careful attention to continuity and pacing for new scenes and re-written scenes to add into the final edit on the film.

Day 1

Lauren’s flat interior and Exterior reaction shots…
A new scene involving actors Ricci Harnett and Jing Lu regarding past events and differences of opinion. Everyone was in good spirits and asking the perennial…when’s it finished!?

Day 2

A big day with some background artistes and core members of the cast.

Working flat out all day to finish a total of six scenes, adding weight to the family relationships between Bailey (Ricci Harnett) and Meredith (Kayleigh Garnett) and consolidating story elements, also catching up on one scene which was purposely missed during the main production due to time constraints.

As well as some very sombre dramatic moments the day included a few scenes where characters Lynn (Zara Dawson) and Bailey, get to know each other, simple scenes ripe for improvisation and witty banter.

Nicholas taking time to explain narrative changes within the edit process and the shuffling of various elements for dramatic effect. Contextualising the new scenes and explaining their use and function in the film.

Day 3

The overriding element of this day was patience. With three simple scenes to execute it would have taken only a few hours to complete, had it not been for those pesky flight paths and lawn trimmers!
